For EVERY scene in the script – make a little note about what each characters’ goal is for the scene. It seems obvious, but those little reminders to review with the actors at the top of the scene (when you’re giving everyone an overview of the action and story context) would be incredibly helpful. You did it for some scenes, but you need to do it for ALL of them. Editor self can tell when director self did not do this.
